Is this community still active? And is anyone planning on participating in the Self Challenge 2003?

I went to the gym this morning and had to leave before I finished my 30 minute cardio. I usually do 15 minutes on the bike and then 15 minutes somewhere else. However, I did a new routine on the bike just to spice things up and it was hard. Really hard. So afterwards I stretched for awhile and then started on the treadmill. I had stop after just a minute because I couldn't go on. So, I guess I pushed myself a little too hard. I might go back tonight and finish up depending on how I feel.

Oy vay. Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?

Well, I finished week one yesterday and I feel alright about it. I exercised enough although I am getting to urge to do cardio more. I'm trying not to get addicted to exercise though because with my history, that could be dangerous.

However, I ate kind of shitty. i had a lot of visitors and too many opporunities for really good dessert. I'm trying to do better now; it's hard to find a balance when I'm used to such crazy eating patterns.

How is everyone else doing?

I've been on the challenge since Monday and I've had a great week. I've got one more flexibility and I'm technically all done for the week, but I think I may do more cardio tomorrow since it's supposed to be nice out.

I really like the concept of nibbling all day rather than having 3 meals. It's required some planning but I think it's a change I'll make permanently. I haven't checked to see if I've lost any weight, I'll do that in another week. I've deffinately lost inches, my pants are really loose. :)

I hope everyone else is doing well. I'm very excited about all of this. I got into some terrible shape over the last couple of years.

learning through the challenge [08 Mar 2002|09:23am]

I'm on month 2 of the challenge. I went to a class at my gym called bodyflow last nite. It was a 50 minute class that combined yoga, tai chi and pilates. I am really sore today but it made me feel really limber. Optimizing time like I always do I followed up the class with 30 mins on the elliptical machine, and burnt about 400 calories, easy on the knees and fun with music, i'd take this machine over the tredmill anyday. I found with the tredmill I was getting my heart rate too high (around 170-180) and I was losing step. not exactly the safest thing to be doing on a tredmill. I've got a long way to go before I reach my goal 135-145 pounds, but I can do it. Its about a change of lifestyle, not just a diet. Eating healthy has been going REALLY well too. I don't even crave fast food anymore(it just makes my tummy hurt anyway)

So yeah, the challenge has been working pretty well for me. I went to the gym yesterday and did both my cardio and the strength workout. Big ouch this morning around my neck muscles. Oh well, it's all in the name of health.

But yeah, I've been doing well. The eating part is awesome because I eat when I'm hungry which is a lot more now.

Okay, that's it for now.

the size of my tummy seems to be getting smaller.

is that because i'm not eating enough?
or

because i'm excercising?

So how is the challenge going for you guys so far? I've managed to eat pretty well everyday so far, and I've gotten in one cardio workout, one strength and one flexibility. Tomorrow is more cardio, Friday is flexibility and strength again, and either Saturday or Sunday is going to be my last cardio session.

I haven't seriously worked out with weights in the past two years, so those are going to be a little rough, I think.

Are you all following the workouts that self.com gives for flexibility and strength, or are you following your own plans?

hello's, hello's.

i have zero motivation to work out this afternoon before class. that means i'd have to take another shower afterwards and still have enough time for dinner. i know that i won't want to work out after i get out of class at 9pm. maybe i should try waking up early on monday's and wednesday's and go to the gym before my 2:30pm class. it's possible. i'll try going to the gym early tomorrow morning. the gym opens at 6am. there's no reason why i couldn't go at 7am, although that sounds like the crack of dawn to me!

i totally cheated yesterday with the flexibility workout. if i work out today at all, that's what i'll be doing again. but i just didn't do it all the way through, and i felt kind of bad, but i guess i still have time to make it up.

hello! [01 Mar 2002|08:41pm]

hello community! i am twenty-one years of age and there's no better time than now to kick my old eating habits in trade for new, more healthy ones, and get in shape. i've always told myself that i was going to get in shape. did i? well, i tried working out a few times a week, but the workout routine i created for myself was boring and i found myself bored.

i am hoping the SELF challenge can help me acquire new, healthy eating habits and kick the bad eating habits i have now. i'm also hoping that i can gain muscle, burn fat and at the end of three months- be in great shape!

i am starting the SELF challenge on march 4.
